Hello honourable judges and participants, I got the idea to write this article upon having read an article in the Telegram titled "Politicians are Wasting Face Time" (Saturday,April 20th,2007). In this article, it basically talked about how Canadian Politicians such as Liberal Opposition Leader Stephanie Dion, NDP Leader Jak Layton and Green Party Leader Elizabeth May have begun to use Facebook as a political tool to win votes and to support partisanship, instead of starting a new dialogue between elections/ citizens and their representatives.
However, this article from the Telegram also pointed out that all isn't lost. A good example of using A weblog, with videos posted, editorials and others as a means of being 'a leader of Digital Democracy' is the Honourable Garth Turner, P.C, Federal MP for Hamilton, whose blog can be found at
http://www.garth.ca
Sadly however, our current Prime Minister decided to boot him from the Conservative Party of Canada just because they perceived the comments on his blog as breaching caucus solidarity.
The point of this whole entry is to let people know that the Internet (and other techniques featured on TakingITGlobal) could be used as an excellent way to increase voters confidence in the Electoral System, allow new, non-partisan views to be heard.
And more inportantly, it'll help put the power to influence our MPs back into the hands of our youth!
